Introduction
Rugby School in Rugby in one of co-educational boarding schools for boys and girls in the UK. Located in central England, Warwickshire country. Rugby School is a co-ed boarding school for boys and girls aged 13-18. Rugby School was the birthplace of Rugby football. In 1845, three Rugby School pupils produced the first written rules of the „Rugby style of game”.
The players then were more numerous: in 1839, when Queen Adelaide visited the School, it was School House (75) versus The Rest (225). Today, innumerable tourists visit the ‘home of the game’ and rugby teams from all over the world can be seen training against the distinctive backdrop of Butterfield’s Chapel.
It is one of the oldest independent boarding schools in Britain. Its re-establishment by Thomas Arnold during his time as Headmaster, from 1828 to 1841, was seen as the forerunner of the Victorian Public School. It is one of the original seven English Public Schools defined by the Public Schools Act 1868. Total enrolment of day pupils from forms 4 to 12 numbers around 800.
