Introduction
Prior’s Field is an independent girls’ boarding and day school in Godalming, near Guildford, Surrey in the south-east of England. It is set in 42 acres of parkland, 34 miles south-west of London and adjacent to the A3, which runs between the capital and the south coast. The school was founded in 1902 with seven pupils. Today it is truly international boarding school of 440 pupils aged 11 to 18 with a third of UK and foreign students boarding on a full, weekly or flexible basis.
The main entry ages for this top UK girls only boarding school are 11+, 13+ and 16+. Girls attend a Preview Day in November, when they undertake some informal tests and activities, and then sit an Entrance Exam the following January. At 16+, entrance is dependent on GCSE results and the outcome of an interview.

Academic life
Our school is full of high performing young women who constantly demonstrate sparkiness and a ‘can do’ attitude. They step up to edit the school magazine, run school council, build and race sports cars and break school sports records. They rise to all sorts of academic challenges through Olympiads and masterclasses, conferences and workshops. Their learning is enriched by the superb line up of authors, academics, artists and adventurers who regularly visit.
Prior’s Field offers a broad education which goes beyond the National Curriculum: we place a strong emphasis on independent learning, creativity and problem solving. We offer a curriculum of English, Maths and Sciences, French, Spanish, Latin, History, Geography, RS, Design Technology, Food, Textiles, Art, Music, Drama, PE, IT, PSHCE at Key Stage 3. Supporting and extending the curriculum are individual music lessons, LAMDA and sports coaching.
Most girls will take 9 GCSEs, although by following the separate sciences course (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) it is possible to take 10. There are compulsory core subjects: English, English Literature, Mathematics (IGCSE), Science (certificated as two GCSEs) and a modern foreign language – French, Spanish or Latin. In addition, girls can choose up to three other options including History, Geography, RS, Art, Food and Nutrition, Dance, ICT, Textiles, Music, Drama, Design Technology, PE and a second language.
Sport and culture
Teamwork is a great strength of the school and sport has a key role to play. Girls are encouraged to get involved and experience the fun and commitment involved in being part of a team. Competition and personal achievement are developed through a wide range of activities. From hockey, netball, tennis, gymnastics and riding, to basketball, rugby, football and athletics, every enthusiasm and level of ability can be met.
