Introduction

CRGS is an 11-18 school for boys and admits girls into a co-educational Sixth Form. It is one of very few state boarding schools, with a family style boarding house . The school has outstanding music and drama facilities and a comprehensive sports fixture list.The school has a small boarding provision, with up to 30 places available to sixth form students from the UK, British passport holders living overseas and foreign students with an EU passport. There are no tuition fees. All boarders must meet the academic entry requirements, which are detailed in the ‘Sixth Form Entry’ document, before they will be considered for a place in boarding.

As a state funded school, students must have English or Maths GCSE (or equivalent) at level 4. Applicants without GCSE English or Maths will be considered but they will be put on a course to achieve these qualifications. If students study English or Maths at A-Level a GCSE qualification is not needed. The fees for 2019 entry are fixed for 2 years and are £4,500 per term.

About the school

Boarding is spread across the main school site in two main buildings – School House and Gilberd House,. The accommodation is comfortable and attractive and has recently been renovated, providing a new kitchen, dining room, study area and TV/Common room. All rooms are carpeted and there is a balance of double and single rooms. There are excellent study facilities, and boarders have access to the school library and resources room, music facilities, playing fields, indoor sports areas and, in the summer, to a heated open-air swimming pool attended by a duty lifeguard. Boarders have the use of a common room, provided with easy chairs and television, a games room, and family kitchen. Meals are in the school restaurant and care is taken to ensure that boarders have a balanced, varied and plentiful diet.
