Introduction

Thornton is a happy and flourishing day and boarding school, catering for girls aged 4+ to 16. We work in partnership with parents to develop the full potential of each child, both within the classroom and outside it. This Christian girls only boarding school expect pupils to work hard at their studies and to participate fully in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. We equip our students to contribute effectively and responsibly to the community of which they are a part.

About the school

The School is set within 25 acres of beautiful parkland just outside Buckingham and within easy reach of Milton Keynes, Bicester and Northampton.

Small, vibrant and close knit boarding community of approximately sixty girls aged 8 – 18 years. This means that girls can board with us at prep school age right through to Sixth Form if they wish, without having to make a transition between two schools.

SHARING A BEDROOM
Boarding at Thornton College is arranged by age groups with girls of the same or similar age sharing a bedroom. From Year 11 to Year 13 (girls aged 15+), girls have single bedrooms (subject to availability).

Each group of boarding girls is cared for by our boarding house 'parents’, with a very experienced and dedicated Housemistress and Assistant Housemistress in charge of all aspects of the health and happiness of the girls in their house.

Sport and culture

Thornton has excellent indoor and outdoor sports and games facilities. Within the 25 acres of grounds there are:

A state of the art Astroturf,
Eight tennis courts,
A running track and long jump,
A heated swimming pool and a huge sports hall.
A spacious Sports Hall which is beautifully equipped. In addition to a wide range of gymnastics equipment it has climbing equipment and is marked out for all major sports.
