The Northwest School 2 acres campus is anchored in the historic Capitol Hill neighborhood of downtown Seattle. The school`s urban campus is surrounded by many art studios, museums, concert halls and theaters. The campus is just a few minutes` walk from the shore of the Pacific Ocean, famous Pike Place Market, the first Starbucks coffee shop, the Paramount Theater, the Pacific Science Center, the Space Needle and many other cultural landmarks and recreational activities.
The school’s main building “The House” constructed in 1905, is a designated historic landmark. Just across the street students step into another building—and another century. Completed in 2014, 401 E. Pike connects and unifies the school’s campus and is an exciting addition to Seattle’s dynamic Capitol Hill neighborhood.
The House
This is where it all began. In 1980, The Northwest School welcomed its first students through the majestic doors of the 1905 Summit School building. The House—as we lovingly call it—was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, and has been declared an official City of Seattle landmark. In 2006, a major renovation and expansion included the addition of classrooms, a computer lab, library, dance studio, and photography lab.
401 East Pike
Located just across the street from the original building, our new building features a league-size gym, a 175-seat theatre, a two-tiered dining room, and a rooftop sports field.
Sandwiched between Crawford and Bellevue Avenue sits our West Court and Urban Farm and Garden. The lot is a multi-use space, providing a half-basketball court for students to enjoy under the sun. The other half is the Urban Farm and Garden, which was constructed by a student-led initiative in the spring of 2017
School accreditations: NWAIS, NAIS, TABS, NSLA, PBC, NBOA, DIEN, the National Summer Learning Association
