Talbot Heath was founded in 1886 by Mary Broad, a pioneer of girls’ education who was determined to offer a first-class liberal education to the daughters of the professional classes.
The most striking aspect of the campus is the beautiful woodland that surrounds buildings. Pupils associate their school days with den building, hide and seek, Forest School and woodland animals, such as the deer, foxes, squirrels and woodpeckers.
The main buildings that make up Junior, Senior and Boarding areas were designed and built in 1936, by a pupil of Edwin Lutyens. Their Modernist design combines style with stature and warmth. The striking red brick structures were designed specifically for Talbot Heath, with the school motif and motto to be found throughout. Stylish wrought iron balconies with animal motifs, as well as lunettes designed by Eric Gill, go hand in hand with oak interiors, quads and cloisters. The school was furnished by Heals in 1936 and retains many of its original features. Visitors comment on the particular character of the learning environment that combines space, light, warmth and tradition.
Alongside school's heritage features there are many state of the art facilities such as large sports hall and fitness complex, astro pitches, running track, tennis and netball courts, swimming pool, designated Music centre with recital room, drama studios, Science centre, art studios, Creative arts centre, digital language laboratory and extensive school libraries.
