St. Margaret’s School is Episcopal, girls’ school for boarding and day, grades 8-12 and a postgraduate year, along the banks of the Rappahannock River in Virginia. It is an independent, all-girls boarding school located in the town of Tappahannock. The school is 45 miles northeast of the Richmond, it is 100 miles southeast of the Washington, also 75 miles northwest of the Hampton Roads metro area. St. Margaret’s is governed by the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. St. Margaret’s opened in 1921 with 14 students, and now has an enrollment of 125 girls. The student body of this Christian boarding school is very diverse, with international students from 18 different countries, and domestic boarding students from 17 states, and Washington, D.C. Day students make up 20% of the student body.

St. Margaret’s strives to meet the specific needs and interests of each student. We have a skills-based curriculum that allows for flexibility based on a girl’s maturity, ability and interest. Placement tests determine which courses a student takes in the areas of English, history, math, science, and foreign languages during her first year. You may find a junior in AP U.S. History, a freshman in World Literature, or a senior taking first-year Latin. Outstanding students are presented with opportunities, such as Advanced Placement/Honors courses in all disciplines, online courses and Dual Enrollment in community college.
