It is difficult to describe to someone unfamiliar with the Sierra Nevada the spectacular beauty of this area. From towering, 9000-foot mountain peaks, to the breathtaking expanse of Lake Tahoe, this is truly one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Squaw Valley Academy’s safe, clean campus is nestled in the Olympic Valley at the edge of the Tahoe National Forest. It is less than 5 miles from California’s largest and most beautiful lake, Lake Tahoe. A California boarding school, SVA campus is only 2 miles from Squaw Valley Ski Resort, home of the 1960 Winter Olympics. With this as backyard, the Sierra Nevada provides an ideal location in which to practice our commitment to real accomplishment and personal success.
Well-appointed residential buildings become a home-away-from-home for our students, who typically live in two-person dormitory rooms. Adult staff are present and available to monitor and help students in dormitories and elsewhere on campus 24 hours per day.

SVA boarding students gain a strong sense of family and community by living with usually one-two roommates in a private room. Most rooms have a view of the surrounding Tahoe National Forest. The residential buildings have in-residence adult chaperones, free-of-charge laundry facilities, and lounges. SVA has limited high-speed wireless Internet; students are required to bring their own laptop computers.
The on-campus Dining Hall serves well-balanced meals each day. On weekdays, a additional soup and salad bar is offered with lunch, while students may also enjoy the salad bar with their dinner. Fresh fruit is available in the Dining Hall: usually apples, bananas, oranges in winter, with added cut-fruit melange at the salad bar, and in summer a mix of seasonal, locally grown fruit. Seven different local pluots (a cross between plums and apricots) are seen in summer.
SVA has a 4-year, college-preparatory curriculum, designed to prepare your child to be successful at colleges and universities in the United States and throughout the world.
