Sotogrande International School is an International Baccalaureate day and boarding school with over 40 nationalities, offering the Primary Years Programme (3-11), the Middle Years Programme (12-16) and the Diploma (16-18), plus outstanding language and learning support. Boarding options are available from M1 (age 11/12) to D2.
The Boarding House is situated on the scenic San Roque Campus and offers each individual a truly international experience. Students from all over the world become part of the SIS Boarding community to take advantage of the outstanding care, facilities and academic provision.
Through our personalised approach to learning our students are encouraged to open their hearts and minds to the joy of learning, to discover their strengths, identify their passions and develop outstanding learning skills. As a result we are achieving excellent results, with an average score of 35 points at Diploma.

About the school
The International School at Sotogrande (ISS) was founded in 1978 by a group of residents of Sotogrande who wanted to offer to the local and growing international community, a British-style education with a Spanish influence. By 1990 the school had developed into a successful and popular primary school with over 250 students and included a high quality secondary school offering UK O-level and A-level courses. For twenty years the school grew steadily and established itself as a leading British-style school in Spain. In 2001, under a new education foundation lead by Paul Templeton, the school relocated to a purpose built campus with the new name Sotogrande International School (SIS) with a roll of 500.
SIS is now a leading international school in the region offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes and IB Diploma examinations. Our student body is culturally diverse with approximately one third British and one third Spanish and the remainder consisting of more than 35 other nationalities.
At Sotogrande International School we have three great campuses; Sotogrande, San Roque and Rio and have invested heavily in a range of top-class facilities. At the school students can enjoy our large outdoor pool and sports hall, computer labs, libraries, music room, art studio and theatre space. In addition our San Roque Campus provides unrivalled boarding accommodation in stunning surroundings. The San Roque Campus boasts a large outdoor swimming pool, a library, study rooms, a music recording studio, student kitchens, TV lounges, a games room, a fully equipped gym, dance studios, a badminton area and a basketball court. At the Rio campus we house our Fundamentals Kindergarten and large sports grounds in a beautiful location.

The accommodation offered is exceptional. Bedrooms are large, air-conditioned and en-suite with a fast WiFi connection. Bedrooms are shared with one other person. The rooms are arranged in age group zones and the Boys corridor sits on the ground floor whilst the Girls corridor is on the first floor. The rooms are cleaned regularly by a dedicated team of staff and provide all of the students with an exceptional environment in which to study and relax. Dress code: Casual whilst at the Boarding House, full school uniform is required during school hours at the school campus.

Academic life
All the students within the Boarding House will have a designated Boarding House Tutor who will take an personal interest in the pastoral and academic well-being of each student within their care. The Boarding House has created extremely close links with the school where Boarding staff will be made aware of any upcoming exams and coursework deadlines to ensure that we are able to put supportive structures in place to offer each individual the best chance of success. In addition to this, the Boarding staff will obtain regular feedback from the school with regards to academic and pastoral performance and we will be an effective support for every student. We also meet on a weekly basis to discuss all students within our care to ensure that we are personalizing our approach for each individual.
Away from the Campus, Boarders are able to take advantage of local amenities including world class golf courses, polo fields, football pitches, tennis clubs, padel courts, and watersport centres that Sotogrande is famous and they have regular opportunities to use the array of facilities also on the Main School Campus.
Sport and culture
We believe young people thrive and grow when the ‘whole person’ is educated. This means our boarding programme encourages students to engage all aspects of themselves; the intellectual, the physical, the creative and the spiritual. We all learn best when we stimulate all of the senses together, and engage both our mental and physical selves.
There is a growing programme of exciting activities and sports which include both day and boarding students, further prospering the interconnectivity of all our students. Some of the activities already on offer:

The expressive arts are a most impressive feature of the programme we offer. Through the arts, students learn how to express themselves in diverse ways, have the opportunity to develop their own ideas and gain confidence in being able to express those ideas. We give students many opportunities to demonstrate their expressive arts skills through dramatic performances, concerts, exhibitions, assemblies, and presentations. These important skills are an invaluable preparation for their future educational and career success.
The school is registered as an exam centre for drama examinations offered by the London Academy for Music and Drama (LAMDA). These take place in the school each November and June.
Individual music tuition is an important part of the extra-curricular programme. Many students take instrumental and vocal music lessons. The instruments offered at present are flute, guitar, bass guitar, piano, drums, violin, viola, cello, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, saxophone and voice, as well as Studio Recording, Music Production, Songwriting and Music Marketing & Promotion.
The school is registered as an examination centre for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and Trinity Rock School examinations, and these take place in the school each November and June. Each term there is an instrumental concert when students perform music they have been taught in their lessons.
Sotogrande Summer Camps offer young people the opportunity of an unforgettable holiday experience in Southern Spain for 2, 3 or 4 weeks. Enjoy the amazing surroundings including beaches, golf courses, excursions and fun, shared with friends from different countries and backgrounds.
At our Summer Camps we develop skills, knowledge and understanding of Languages, Sport, Culture and Performing Arts. We are based in the San Roque Campus, which is located in a Golf resort offering luxury in a tranquil environment in the heart of a green zone with beautiful views of the Mediterranean. Location Description
The school is situated in a beautiful residential area of Andalucía with stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and surrounding countryside. Sotogrande is some 90 kilometres west of Málaga airport and 20 kilometres east of Gibraltar airport. It is considered one of the most scenic parts of the Costa del Sol coastline with its lush vegetation, picturesque marina and attractive coastline.
On leaving the airport follow signs to Cádiz. After approximately 2 kms. take the junction to the E15/A7 toll road to Algeciras – Cádiz. Leave the E-15/A-7 at exit 130 signposted to Castellar, Pueblo Nuevo de Sotogrande and Sotogrande. At the roundabout take the third exit to Castellar. The school is located on the right at the next roundabout 3 kms. along this road. (Aprox. 60 minutes drive)
From Gibraltar airport and La Linea
Leave La Linea by the A383. Join the E-15/A-7 in the direction of Estepona/Málaga. Exit at junction 130 signposted to Castellar, Pueblo Nuevo de Sotogrande and Sotogrande. At the first roundabout take the last exit under the bridge. At the second roundabout take the second exit to Castellar The school is located on the right at the next roundabout 3 kms. along this road.
From San Roque and Algeciras
Take the E-15/A-7 in the direction of Estepona/Málaga. Exit at junction 130 signposted to Castellar, Pueblo Nuevo de Sotogrande and Sotogrande. At the first roundabout take the last exit under the bridge. At the second roundabout take the second exit to Castellar The school is located on the right at the next roundabout 3 kms. along this road.
From Cádiz and Jerez de la Frontera
Leave Cádíz by the N-443 and join the AP-4 in the direction of Jerez de la Frontera. Take exit 85 signposted Jerez Sur and Los Barrios and continue in the direction of Medina Sidonia and Algeciras. Take the A-381 to Algeciras, then join the E-15/A-7 in the direction of Estepona/Málaga. Exit at junction 130 signposted to Castellar, Pueblo Nuevo de Sotogrande and Sotogrande. At the first roundabout take the last exit under the bridge. At the second roundabout take the second exit to Castellar The school is located on the right at the next roundabout 3 kms. along this road.
