Introduction

Prestfelde School is an independent co-educational day and boarding preparatory school for children between the ages of 3 and 13. This preparatory boarding school in Shropshire is a non-selective school with high academic standards. In the last few decades it has developed from being an all boys’ preparatory school to a co-educational school, which continues to encourage pupils to make the most of its art, CDT, music, drama and sporting facilities. There are two forms in every year group, and Prestfelde takes pupils from the age of three to 13.

About the school

Since 1949, the school has formed part of the Woodard Schools group, founded by the Christian educationalist the Reverend Nathaniel Woodard and as such is affiliated to the largest group of Church of England schools in the country. Originally a school for boys, it diversified during the late 1990s and now has nearly 100 girls.

This prep boarding school has its own Chapel, Music School, Dining Hall, Design and Technology Department, Gymnasium, Indoor Swimming Pool, Medical Centre, Drama Studio, Library, ICT suite, Art Department, two modern Science Laboratories, Changing Rooms and Boarding House.

Academic life

The main objective of Senior Prestfelde is to lay firm foundations in a wide range of academic subjects, but the main emphasis is on the core National Curriculum areas of English, Maths, and Science.

Foundation subjects (Art, Drama, French, Latin, Geography, History, Music, PE, Religious Studies, and Design Technology) are also taught and assessed alongside the core subjects, twice a year. Prestfelde’s syllabus is an enrichment of National Curriculum and the Common Entrance syllabus. It also meets the requirements of scholarship entrance for senior Independent Schools, and the entrance examinations requirements for State grammar schools.

Sport and culture

An impressive array of sports is offered at Prestfelde, and beyond the major sports – Football, Rugby, Cricket, Lacrosse, Netball and Rounders – there are many other sports and extra activities which awaken and develop other interests including Tennis, Swimming, Cross-Country, Hockey, Dance, Dodgeball, Fencing, Athletics and Archery.

Shrewsbury is the county town of Shropshire, England. Located 9 miles (14 km) east of the Welsh border. The A5 and A49 trunk roadscross near to the town, and five railway lines meet at Shrewsbury railway station. It is located 225 km north-west of London.
