Introduction

The Mount School is a Quaker day and boarding school for girls aged 11 to 18, our Junior School caters for girls and boys aged 2 to 11. This boarding school in Yorkshire aims to provide a happy, supportive, friendly and creative environment in which pupils can develop their own unique potential and achieve the highest standards of which they are capable, both in learning and in personal development.

Extra-curricular activities are an important part of the school day, every day. Pupils across the School are encouraged to participate in a range of sport, music, drama and other enrichment activities as well as social justice projects such as involvement in Amnesty and the Model United Nations. Charity work is extremely wide-ranging at this girls only boarding school and plays an important part in what we do in both Junior School and Senior School.

Academic excellence goes without saying and we are consistently one of the top performing schools in North Yorkshire and the North of England. In Summer 2017 our A Level results put us 134th in the Independent Schools’ Council league tables for the percentage of A/A*grades (46%). Annually, girls gain entry to top universities including, for example, Oxford and Cambridge, Edinburgh, Exeter, Newcastle, Central St Martins, University College London and many top international universities.

Academic life

Sport and culture

The sporting facilities are 16 acres (65,000 m2) of pitches, an indoor heated swimming pool, a sports hall, and a gymnasium. Girls may opt for activities such as orienteering and fencing. Every year has compulsory P.E. lessons for sports including netball, hockey and swimming in the winter and rounders, tennis and athletics in the summer. College girls are able to choose from a wider variety of sports including lacrosse and using the fitness suite.

The Mount has an entire block dedicated to Music. Annual concerts include recitals for small groups and soloists. There are teachers available for most instruments and an opportunity for students to join a variety of music activities. Ensembles include Senior and Junior Orchestra and Senior and Junior Choir.

Drama is an active part in school life as there is usually a whole school play and a College Play every year. Girls are encouraged to be an active part of all roles for these plays including backstage and lighting, front of house and of course the acting itself. The College play is yet another tradition at The Mount. Girls from College II select a play of their choice to direct, produce and organise costumes and sets.
