Kelly College was founded in 1877 after Admiral Benedictus Marwood Kelly left the a huge part of his buildings to Trustees, founding a charity which he thought should be named 'The Kelly College', and which should serve for education of the 'sons of Naval officers and other gentlemen'. In order to present his good will William the 8th Duke of Bedford gifted 20 acres of his Tavistock estate for the College to exists.
This great boarding school is located on the area of more than150 acres, and includes facilities, such as: two all-weather pitches, grass pitches for rugby, football, cricket and rounders, indoor sports hall with two squash courts, indoor training centre and viewing gallery, indoor and outdoor cricket nets, cross-country courses, netball courts, two fives courts, a nine-hole golf course, a full-size indoor swimming pool and a heated outdoor swimming pool.
