Lyndon Institute offers a comprehensive dance program with age appropriate training for the beginning to advanced teenage dance student. With a variety of class levels and styles, multiple guest artists, field trips, educational workshops, and numerous performance opportunities throughout the school year, there are many ways in which the dancer can be involved, entertained, and develop skill (mentally, socially, physically) and creativity. The Theater Program at Lyndon Institute combines course work with an extracurricular production program. The purpose of this year long, repeatable course is to give the student an increased appreciation of and additional experience in theater as an art form. Students will act, direct, and be technically involved in scenes, one-act plays, or full length production.
The class develops a wide range of performance skills using a variety of acting techniques from Stanislavsky, Meisner, Uta Hagen, Peter Brook, and other masters of acting technique. Class work includes monologues, 2 person and group scenes, vocal production, improvisation, movement, and the behind the scenes production of the school’s musical. Students will read, write, and evaluate plays as well as participate in peer critique forums.
Skills gained in this program are at a professional level − qualifying students for acceptance to excellent undergraduate theater programs and for work in amateur and professional theatrical productions. Lyndon Institute participates in the National Art Honor Society (NAHS), a national organization specifically for high school students in grades 9-12. In 1978, the National Art Education Association began the National Art Honor Society program to inspire and recognize students who have shown an outstanding ability and interest in art.
