Leweston School in Sherborne, Dorset, UK is boarding and day school for pupils aged from 3 months to 18 years, welcoming pupils of all denominations. The Junior Department of the school is co – educational and comprises pupils up to the age of 11, with boarding for girls from the age of 7. The Senior School offers both boarding and day places for girls from age 11 to 18. There are three boarding houses junior, middle and senior – on the main school site. In 2017 Leweston announced a move to full co-education over the next four years. Registrations are being accepted for boys into Year 7, 8 and Sixth Form for September 2018 and Year 9 in 2019.
From 2019 this top UK boarding school will introduce a co-educational ‘diamond model’ making Leweston only one of a handful of schools in the country, and the only one in the local area, offering a structure which combines the academic benefits of single-sex education with the all-round advantages of co-education. Girls and boys in Years 9 to 11 will be taught separately in Maths and Science, but join together for other subjects, clubs and enrichment activities.

Leweston School was founded in Sherborne as St Antony’s school in 1891 by the Sisters of Christian Instruction. The senior school moved to the Leweston Manor estate in 1948 and became known as St Antony’s-Leweston School, in 1993 the Preparatory school followed. The school name was changed to Leweston School in 2007.
The main school building is a Palladian manor house built in the late eighteenth century. The school grounds occupy 46 acres (190,000 m2), and include the Chapel of the Holy Trinity, a Grade I listed building, built in 1616.The Trinity Chapel is the oldest building on the school site and is used regularly for smaller services. There is another chapel situated in the main school.

The children are firmly at the heart of everything there, small class sizes enable staff to develop a deep understanding of each child, learning exactly how to bring the best out of them. The small class sizes also contribute considerably to family atmosphere. Older children spend time supporting our youngest and, in turn, those children in the younger years follow their example and look to support one another.
Pupils have weekly lessons in Modern Foreign Language, Latin, Performing Arts, Music, Design Technology, ICT, Art, History, Geography, Religious Studies, Science, Swimming, PE and Games. Pupils have time and space to benefit from beautiful site, with running clubs, Forest School, gardening and a daily welly walk for Pre-Prep pupils.
Leweston Senior School
Leweston delivers a broad and flexible curriculum that ensures balanced, appropriate and interesting learning opportunities for every pupil. The school’s focus is to enable pupils to achieve the best possible academic success. There is a strong emphasis on working hard, striving for excellence and independent learning however happy pupils are motivated pupils and students are encouraged to participate in sport, music and creative arts because learning takes place as much outside the classroom as within it. The School includes in its core provision English, History, Geography, HEF, Maths, Science, PSHE and RE, Drama, Classical Studies or Latin, Music, one Modern Foreign Language, and PE. While traditional in the rigour and range of subjects and teaching, the curriculum is considered, developed and changed to suit the academic needs of pupils an annual basis. The school prides itself on offering a bespoke approach to GCSE and A level choices where pupils are invited to select the courses that they want to study and the timetable is then constructed around them.
The Sixth Form
Moving into the Sixth Form provides pupils with new opportunities and exciting challenges marking the transition between school and university and a time for raising aspirations. While there is a supportive continuity throughout the school, Sixth Formers testify to the differences between their GCSE and A Level years at Leweston and they welcome approximately 20% of students into the school at this stage. The Sixth Form at Leweston offers a broad and enriching curriculum. As well as exploring new areas of knowledge and new ways of studying, you will find opportunities for wide interaction with others, for leadership and involvement in the community as well as different experiences in sport, art and design, drama, music, travel and friendship.
