Sixth Form Boarding School

The Lower Sixth Project:  At the start of the Lower Sixth all pupils undertake a short research project based on an issue of question relating to one of their AS subject choices.  This undertaking is supported by a course of research skills sessions based on the University of East Anglia pre-U study skills programme.  The purpose of the project is three-fold:  to deliver a study/research skills programme to the pupils in relation to a 'live’ piece of work; to highlight the heightened expectations regarding independent study at A Level and encourage positive working habits and time-management skills from the outset of the A Level course.

The Extended Project Qualification:  The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is offered to all Sixth Formers and is an opportunity to complete a 5000 word project or create an artefact (e.g. composition, model, performance) based on independent research.  In addition to the main project candidates complete a log-book detailing their working processes and decision-making encouraging meta-learning and critical thinking and deliver a presentation on the process and final product.  The EPQ is equivalent to an AS level with grades A* to E available, and is recognised by universities as demonstrating aspiration, intellectual curiosity and higher order study skills in pupils who achieve high grades.
