Participation in Sport is key to the development of character of the
girls at Scotland’s leading all girls’ boarding school where we encourage all pupils to take part
regardless of age and ability. All the activities throughout the week
are varied from yoga and karate classes to team sports of hockey,
netball and tennis, there is a sport for all.

 This Scotland’s leading all girls’ boarding school is blessed with over 50 acres of beautiful grounds which
offer an enviable range of sporting facilities including an
International sized all-weather floodlit hockey pitch, eight floodlit
all-weather tennis courts, riding school with livery, extensive playing
fields, a superb sports hall, fitness suite and climbing wall, and a new
25m indoor swimming pool complex.

In addition, the majority of girls become involved in an extensive
range of other after school sporting activities such as Aerobics,
Badminton, Cricket, Fitness Gym, Football, Highland Dancing, Karate,
Modern Dance, Rock Climbing, Rugby, Skiing, year-round Tennis Coaching,
Yoga, Zumba dance, team practices for major sports and team fitness
training sessions. The school has a strong programme of inter-school
sporting activity.

Sport is a significant part of life for every girl at Kilgraston. We
recognise that not every girl is ‘sporty’, but we encourage them to try
everything and as a result discover a sport which they will enjoy.

Hockey Academy

At this Scotland’s leading all girls’ boarding school we work hard at all our sports and our new
Hockey and Tennis Academies are an opportunity to attract gifted
athletes to develop and nurture their skills. This is an exciting new development that will enhance the current
pupils’ performance but also allow others to maximise their talents and
ensure that we are looking after the elite performers at Kilgraston
School.

 This Scotland’s leading all girls’ boarding school has recently completed the development of a new full
sized astro hockey pitch with flood lighting to allow play to continue
after school, both for the girls at school and also linking to the wider
community.

Along with our outstanding facilities we have outstanding staff to
help push and develop the skills of our players. 

Tennis Academy
Kilgraston’s tennis academy provides a comprehensive and engaging
programme for our most committed and talented players under the guidance
of two professional coaches, Adam Brown and Olivia Paisley.
Equestrian Centre
This  Scotland’s leading all girls’ boarding school is the only school in Scotland with equestrian facilities on
campus. Our Equestrian Centre is fully equipped and includes a 60m x 40m
floodlit arena, well maintained securely fenced grazing, and a jumping
paddock. Any girl can bring to Kilgraston their own horse or pony.

Participation in musical activities has been proven to significantly
develop children’s social, cognitive and motor skills as well as foster
greater teamwork. The benefits to children are extensive and the Music

offers a wide range of extra-curricular
activities for students of all ages.

The ability to perform in front of an audience is a difficult skill
to master and regular rehearsals and performances improve confidence and
self-esteem, helping pupils to develop a variety of skills that no
classroom can teach. The experience of performing on stage can equip
students with skills that will benefit them for many years in the
future.

The Music Department is headed up by Andrew McGarva, Director of
Music. Andrew is a graduate of the RSAMD where he studied Violin
Performance with Warren Jacobs.

have gained national recognition. There are opportunities to study fine
art, ceramics, graphics and photography, and pupils are encouraged to
experiment using new media.

The girls make regular visits to workshops, galleries, and
exhibitions locally and nationally and practicing artists are frequently
invited to the school to talk, give demonstrations and discuss
techniques and ideas.

Art is a very popular choice at Kilgraston and girls can study it at Standard Grade, Higher, Advanced Higher and A-Level.

Drama is an important, popular and rewarding aspect of school life as
well as featuring as part of the curriculum. Participating in drama
activities is especially beneficial for developing communication and
teamwork skills, whilst at the same time providing the girls with an
enormous amount of fun.

The impressive and varied productions (which take place in the
school’s new state of the art theatre) attract not only parents and
friends, but also a wider audience drawn from the locality.

There are opportunities for those with thespian interests to become
involved in the Senior School’s stunning drama and musical productions
held biennially alongside the annual Prep School productions.

Private LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) classes
leading towards examinations and awards offer another popular choice for
pupils at Kilgraston who wish to further their interest.
