Boarding School Facilities
All classrooms, laboratories, library facilities and seminar rooms are fitted to the very highest standards with state-of-the-art technology. The bespoke Art School entrance opens into the BonBernard Gallery, a light, lofty space that hosts a broad range of both pupil and visiting exhibitions. The facility also boasts excellent studio spaces for specialist work in 2 and 3 dimensions, with individually allocated work areas for Sixth form pupils. Music School has at its centre an elegant concert hall enhanced by hand-made stained glass windows, banners and acoustic curtain. Wonderful renowned Music Department with its internationally renowned Carducci Quartet leads the Strings Department. Great performing opportunities exist for pupils of all abilities and the department stages in excess of 50 concerts each year, ranging from informal lunchtime recitals to major choral and orchestral events!
Fourth Form (Year 9)
All pupils in the Fourth Form study the following subjects: English, History, Mathematics, Latin/Classical Civilisation, Geography, French, Physics, Religious Studies, Chemistry and Biology. The creative Studies course introduces the scholars to a wide range of artistic and creative subjects, embracing Design Technology, Art & Design, Drama, Music and Physical Education. Spanish is studied as a second modern foreign language by the majority. Classical Greek is an extra subject for the most able Latin students.
Remove & Fifth Form (Years 10 & 11)
GCSE subject options are chosen in the second term of the Fourth Form. Most pupils will take 10 GCSEs. The core curriculum studied by all pupils consists of: English, Mathematics, Religious Studies, Physical Education and PHSE. The majority of pupils take French or English as a secondary language (ESL). The rest of the available subjects are in option groups. GCSE Religious Studies (short course) is taken by all candidates at the end of the Remove Form (Year 10). Members of the top set in Mathematics sit the IGCSE examination at the end of the Remove Form, which enables them to further their studies in both depth and breadth in the Fifth Form by taking Additional Maths.
Sixth Form Boarding School
In order to undertake the normal A level course we expect scholars to have obtained a minimum of four GCSE passes at B & 2 at grade C, with B the standard minimum requirement in those subjects intended for further study. Most Sixth Formers choose four A level subjects in the first year, which will lead to AS qualifications at the end of that year. Three subjects will normally be continued to the full A level (A2) in the second year. There is at present the wide range of 23 subjects from which to choose, as follows: English, History, Mathematics, Politics, Physics, Philosophy & Ethics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics, French, Business Studies, German, Psychology, Spanish, Theatre Studies, Latin, Art & Design, Greek, Music, Classical Civilisation, Design Technology, Geography, Physical Education.
