Introduction

There are traditional two-year long courses, as well as the fast track eighteen-month and one-year A level courses. One year GCSE courses are equally suitable for students who wish to retake their GCSEs, or for students who wish to raise their grades and for those who have never taken GCSE before and wish to do so in one year. These courses would also suit those who have been home-educated as a final preparation for the examinations. IGCSE examinations are favoured by the leading independent schools as a harder test and as a better preparation for AS and A levels. The questions tend to be more traditional in style and we offer most subjects in this format. Medical Studies Preparation Programme! his course is a joint venture between David Game College and Clinical Network International (CNI) run by Dr A. Iqbal, a medical consultant at the Medway Maritime Hospital in the United Kingdom. University admissions are fiercely competitive. Successful candidates need to have an outstanding academic record as well as demonstrate exceptional commitment when applying for courses such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and scientific related disciplines. A specialist course is being offered to boost your chances of securing your first choice medical or dental school. In addition to core medical courses, the programme also prepares students who wish to study a life science subject at leading universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, and UCL. Entry standards for life sciences subjects into Oxbridge, Imperial and UCL can be high as those for medical studies. Also BTEC courses offered! The David Game Higher Education Centre (DGHE) offers a friendly, highly professional approach to empowering learners with the knowledge, skills and employability focus to be successful in a competitive job market, or indeed to progress to degree completion. About the school

Established in 1974, David Game College has had a fascinating history that covers periods in different parts of London, namely South Kensington, Notting Hill Gate and the current location in the City of London. The genesis story of the College is based on a student that Mr Game, the Founder and current Co-Principal, was privately teaching who suggested that he start a College! From these humble beginnings, the College has grown over 100 times its original size to become a highly respected independent day and boarding College.

The current City of London site was acquired in 2016 after decades based in West London. The new setting is steeped in historical and modern landmarks (Tower Bridge, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Tower of London, the Bank of England, Lloyds of London, the Gherkin, the Cheesegrater, the Walkie Talkie) is fitting given the College’s own fascinating history, and how it has adapted and thrived to become a thoroughly modern private college in London. The College building had its foundation stone laid in 1899 by the Bishop of London and has always been an educational establishment. The College building was occupied previously by London Guildhall and Metropolitan universities.

The College has three custom built laboratories – a physics laboratory and a new biology and chemistry laboratory. The physics laboratory has been designed to allow students the best chance to engage in experimental physics and is spacious. The new biology and chemistry laboratory was designed by the Head of Science and the tutors to allow students the best possible experimental experience. It is fully equipped to handle all GCSE and A level experiments as well as students’ own project work, plus contains state-of-the-art data recording and sensory equipment as well as up-to-date facilities for DNA analysis. We have a number of specialist classrooms including two auditoriums seating 70 and 200 students. We use our large auditorium for school plays as well as for seminars and workshops. The College has a well-resourced Art Room as well as ICT facilities and Photoshop software.

In its most recent educational report, Ofsted rated David Game College’s teaching as “Outstanding”, reflecting the professionalism that the College has developed in this fundamental area. The College combines traditional tutorial techniques with modern progressive forms of learning, backed up with e-learning support. All students are provided with a copy of their subject specifications, details of recommended text books and an outline of how their course will be taught.

From an early stage of the course, emphasis is placed on examination technique with students being given past paper questions for homework and tests, once key topics have been covered. Teaching is carried out in small groups and designed to achieve rapid learning. All teachers have a first degree in their subject and many have relevant professional teaching qualifications. Classes are closely monitored by members of the Leadership Team and teachers are regularly inspected and assessed using National Standards. Homework is set in all subjects and the College places particular importance on regular testing.

Students are provided with course notes, but encouraged to make their own notes to augment those provided by teachers. Lessons are highly structured, with learning objectives being made clear and learning achieved using a combination of techniques appropriate to the lesson. Most lessons are augmented with pre-selected and approved educational ICT support material, such as YouTube clips, and e-learning educational applications. The College has developed its own e-learning Moodle platform, which it encourages students to access outside of class time.

The College is housed in a newly renovated premises of nearly 60,000sq feet near Tower Hill in the City of London.
