Claremont Preparatory School is an independent day school for boys and girls, aged 4 to 13 years. Many pupils join directly from our own Nursery School which is located on the same site and caters for children from 12 months old.
The school was originally founded in Hove, in 1925, but moved to its current site in St Leonards-on-Sea in 1945 when it amalgamated with Langley Place School. The building, a magnificent Norman Shaw designed mansion house, was built in 1880s for the Ebden family and was originally named Baldslow Place.
Claremont Senior School, founded in 2011, is a quite remarkable school, unbridled by the past, highly progressive and forward thinking, yet built upon a foundation of traditional values, considerable experience and a pro-active, common-sense attitude.
This top UK boarding school has outstanding facilities at the three sites in Bodiam, St. Leonards-On-Sea and Battle. This enables the school to provide much of its extensive co-curricular and extracurricular programme without the need for off-site travel. The three sites comprise approximately 120 acres, including a newly-refurbished boarding house, a modern purpose-designed Sixth Form Centre, various pitches, school buildings, sporting facilities, recreational area and woodland. The building themselves comprise new Science laboratories, ICT suites, design technology workshop, two multi-purpose halls, a drama and dance studio and a fully equipped, purpose-built theatre.
Classroom Facilities
The Preparatory School is accommodated in a magnificent Norman Shaw designed mansion house that was built in 1888. This building houses the library, chapel, art room, music and French departments, plus the School Office. It has been extended to provide classrooms for the Pre-Preparatory department on the lower floor, and specialist subject teaching facilities for the Preparatory School on the upper floor. These include a modern IT suite and well-equipped science laboratories.
Theatre/Drama Hall Facilities – Perfect for a Party!
There are 2 purpose built theatres and assembly halls. These are used throughout the year for concerts, plays and other events. These also have catering facilities, ideal for any event.
Furthermore, the school owns its own study centre in St Omer in Northern France, which provides a platform for pupils to practise their French and experience the local culture. The centre is situated in the heart of this historic town. It is 35 minutes from the Eurotunnel terminal. Students benefit from regular visits there as part of their French language studies.
Claremont has two boarding houses, each with its own unique character but both offering safe, comfortable and structured accommodation. Both houses have been located off campus and benefit from large common rooms and have gardens and grounds extending to over 2 hectares.
Fitted out to the highest standards and with space for some for some 45 students, Pyke House is situated in the historic town of Battle, adjacent to the English Heritage site of the Battle of Hastings and just a five minute walk from Battle railway station. Clyde House is new boarding house and is located just a couple of minutes’ drive from the Prep School. Sleeping up to 60 students, this house offers many single rooms and a high proportion of en suite facilities. Its large garden, spacious rooms and excellent communal areas provide our students with the perfect home-from-home.
