Cheltenham College has been educating young people since 1841. Bestowed with stunning buildings and set in the heart of one of England’s most vibrant spa towns, boys and girls are provided with a modern first class all-round education that prepares them for their next step onwards into life. Cheltenham College takes pupils from 13 to 18 and Cheltenham College Preparatory School takes pupils from 3 to 13 years old, with boarding from age 7.
Learning is at the heart of what they do; pupils are inspired to achieve high academic standards, leaving with exam results they can be proud of. They flourish under the guidance of dedicated teachers who are leaders in their subject fields. This, combined with small class sizes and academic rigour, is reflected in 2018 exam results with almost 70% of GCSEs graded A* or A, and 76% of A Levels were A*-B.
The pastoral care is something that everyone takes pride in. This is the foundation which enables pupils to gain confidence in themselves. Similarly, the opportunities provided outside of the classroom are second to none. This is a busy school offering outstanding provision within sport, creative arts and outdoor education. Pupils are able to develop a range of interests that will last them a lifetime.
The community service programme is a particularly important part of College life. This is an area in which pupils gain an understanding of the importance of giving their time to benefit others, and in doing so, an appreciation of the value of service is gained and pupils are better prepared for life after College.
Above all, Cheltenham College inspires young people who are willing to learn, ambitious to achieve and keen to get involved. Boys and girls who join at any age will leave as well-rounded young men and women, having fulfilled their true potential and gained a place at a top university of their choice. They will have been prepared for life beyond school and be able to contribute positively to society.

Cheltenham College has a rich and broad curriculum that gives every pupil the opportunity to find and develop their academic interests and talents. Pupils at Cheltenham Prep not only cover the core curriculum, but are equipped to drive their own interests, and to actively participate in their own learning.
In the Third Form (Year 9), when pupils are 13 and 14, studies focus on a wide range of subjects, including two modern languages, three sciences and Latin. The Fourth and Fifth Forms (Years 10 and 11) see pupils studying for GCSEs and IGCSEs. These are important public examinations that pave the way to A Level and also play an important role in university admissions and job applications.
Most pupils take ten GCSEs and IGCSEs, including English, English Literature, Maths and at least two sciences and one modern foreign language. These are complemented by four further options. In Sixth Form – or Upper College – students focus their studies, working on a smaller number of subjects at greater depth. They can choose from two routes of study. The first is to study three A Levels and complete an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). The second is to study four A Levels.
High academic standards, the guidance of dedicated teachers who are leaders in their subject fields, and small class sizes produces excellent exam results, with almost 70% of last year’s GCSEs graded A* or A, and 76% of A Levels graded A*-B.
