Boarding School Accommodation
Students in the Lower and Middle College live in Barrow House at the heart of the main campus, in shared rooms of between two and eight. Upper College students live in shared rooms of 2 or 3. Senior Girls also live in Barrow House, whilst Senior Boys’ have a separate boarding house a short distance from the College. All students of boarding school have access to indoor and outdoor recreational facilities, common rooms, study spaces and Wi -Fi. All meals are served in the main dining room in Barrow House.
Lower, Middle and Upper College Programmes: English language and academic pathway programmes for students aged 7 to 17 years
The Lower College Programme consists of intensive English language tuition and academic study for Prep School and 11+ Senior School entry. The Programme includes 25 hours of academic tuition and 5 hours of supervised prep. In addition, there is up to 15 hours of sports and activities each week and a full day excursion every weekend
The Middle College Programme consists of intensive English language tuition and academic study for 13+ Senior School entry . The Programme includes 25 hours of academic tuition and 5 hours of supervised prep. In addition, there is up to 15 hours of sports and activities each week
The Upper College Programme consists of intensive English language tuition and academic study for Senior School entry, including preparation for GCSEs, A Levels and the International Baccalaureate. 1 Year IGCSE / Pre -IB Programme for students aged 15 to 16 years
The 1 Year IGCSE / Pre-IB Programme offers 12 examinable subjects and is an excellent preparation for international students before they begin their A Level studies or the IB Diploma Programme. The Programme is suitable for international students who wish to complete IGCSE examinations in just one year, in preparation for entry into Sixth Form to study A Levels or the IB Diploma.The Programme includes 30 hours of academic tuition and 7.5 hours of supervised prep. In addition, there is up to 7 hours of sports and activities each week and a full-day excursion every weekend.
Pre -A Level Programme for students aged 16 years – Academic Summer Programmes for students aged 7 to 17 years
The Pre-A Level Programme is designed to provide an excellent preparation for international students before they commence their A Level studies or the IBD at a mainstream boarding school. Students develop skills in academic English at IELTS Level 5.5 to 6.5, with a focus on applying reading, writing, speaking and listening techniques to the study of a range of subjects at an advanced level. Students learn how to transfer their academic language skills to the study of three fields of Science, Maths and Humanities subjects. Students are also be given the opportunity to enhance their creative and reflective skills during weekly Art sessions. The Pre-A Level Programme includes 30 hours of academic tuition and 7.5 hours of supervised prep. Wonderful Academic Summer Programme – 5 weeks in summer.
Bishopstrow College’s Summer Boarding Programmes offers courses for Lowers aged 7 -11 years, Middles aged 11 -14 years and Uppers aged 14 -17 years. The Programme combines English learning with academic subjects, including Mathematics, Science and History.
For students joining the Lower College and Middle College Programme, the more formal English and academic classes are complemented by programme of Music, Art and Drama. These activities encourage speaking and listening and help build confidence and develop self expression. In addition to the programme of Music, Art and Drama, all students are required to complete a Group Multimedia Project. Summer Boarding Programmes extra curricular includes a range of daily sports and morning and evening clubs and activities, designed to foster team spirit . Activities offered range from boat building and arts and crafts to dodge ball. Morning and afternoon clubs include ‘The Crazy Scientist Club’, Chess Club and Debating Club. Weekend activities include fun swimming, country walks, outdoor cooking and survival simulation games. The College is able to arrange other activities such as horse riding and golf on request, for an additional charge. As well as on -site activities, the programme offers a stimulating, fully – supervised trips at weekends. Excursions may include: n London museums and art galleries n Hiking on nearby Salisbury Plain n Cycling and orienteering in forests n Outdoor activity centres n Trips to the beach and coastal walking n Visits to neighbouring towns and cities, such as Bath, Bristol, Cardiff, Salisbury and Oxford.
