Bournemouth has a range of sporting activities that cater for all abilities and requirements.
BH Live provides four different sports centres for local residents to use and enjoy their facilities.
Next door to the AUB campus, SportBU at Bournemouth University offers student gym membership at a discounted price, allowing you to take advantage of the different classes and equipment on offer.
You can also take advantage of the Give it a Go programme, run by the AUB Students’ Union. Being a member lets you try as many of our social sports as you like (normally £2.50 per session), including:
Yoga, Hockey, Jogging, Football, Tae Kwon Do, Netball, Fencing, Tennis, Badminton.
If you attend six sessions of any sport (or a mix) during the term, you will receive a free Give it a Go hoody.
The Olympic sized Velodrome at Slades Farm Open Space in Ensbury Park, is a popular place to train and socialise. Annual volleyball competitions are held on Boscombe beach and attract teams from all over the world. Bournemouth also holds an annual marathon festival, which is another reason to get those running trainers on and get active. If running is not your thing, you could always swim pier-to-pier. Old Harry Rocks is a popular viewpoint for walkers or for an alternative way to see the coast, kayaks are available to hire at Poole Harbour and Boscombe.
You’ve got to take advantage of our location, so naturally, watersports are big down here. Taking up surf lessons is a great way to learn a new skill as well as meeting other people.
Surf lessons are available in both Bournemouth and Boscombe and run all year round and offer classes from basics to the advanced. If you don’t have the equipment, then there are shops that you can buy or hire the gear from.
Kite surfing and Paddleboarding are also becoming really popular. For the really daring amongst you, you can go Coasteering (jumping off cliffs into the sea – fully supervised of course.)
AUB students can use the sports facilities at Bournemouth University, just across the road. Theres a Gym, and plenty of classes and clubs to join – see it all at SportBU. AUB students pay the same rates as BU students.
