Appleford School is an independent day and residential special school for boys and girls aged 7-19 with dyslexia and associated special educational needs such as dyspraxia and dyscalculia. The school offers day placements as well as weekly and full boarding.
Appleford was originally a Prep School for pupils aged 7 – 13 and since expanded to take pupils up to 18 years old, studying GCSEs and BTECs.
The aim of this special school UK is to restore pupils confidence, unlocking and developing their skills and talents.
Appleford takes a whole-school approach to dyslexia using research-based multi-sensory programmes and resources. It has small classes of 8 to 12 pupils with high levels of LSA support. It employs a range of staff, including specialist teachers and therapists. The school gives access to qualifications including GCSEs (with options at Year 9) and BTEC Vocational and Functional Skills Certificates.

Appleford was founded in 1988 by Dr Peter Gardner, a Chartered Educational Psychologist, a Chartered Forensic Psychologist and a Chartered Counselling Psychologist of the British Psychological Society, and Gerald Trump. Zoë Wanamaker, CBE later became Patron of Appleford.

Appleford School offers a full national curriculum leading to GCSE (with options at Year 9) in a range of subjects and and BTEC Vocational and Functional Skills Certificates.
The school continues to place a high emphasis on personal and social skills through the child’s career at Appleford. Consequently, every child from Year 9 onwards takes part in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and all children have access to an extensive co-curricular programme which includes elements of charity and community service.
