Aldro is a preparatory boarding school in Shackleford, near Godalming, Surrey, England. It caters for about 200 boys between the ages of 7 and 13. The Good Schools Guide called the school an „Extremely popular and successful traditional prep school,” also stating „It is a somewhat eccentric world with some delightfully eccentric teachers, and makes a welcome home for boys of every variety.”

About the school
Aldro was founded in 1898 and moved to Shackleford from Eastbourne in 1940. We are fortunate to occupy a beautiful setting in the Surrey countryside, and to enjoy the use of some outstanding facilities for a prep school. The ethos of the school is centred on our Christian foundation and priority is given to the highest standards of pastoral care and to the education of the „whole child” as an individual. We encourage our pupils to become caring, thoughtful, and confident members of the school community and to be fully prepared to move on and thrive at their senior schools. Aldro seeks to be an inclusive school, with a genuine 'family-feel’, offering opportunities for all pupils to discover their talents and gifts whilst, encouraging them to strive for excellence. Boarding is a great strength of Aldro, contributing to the busy and vibrant atmosphere here and teaching the pupils vital skills of independence and responsibility which stand them in good stead for their future schools.

Academic life
The aim of this boys only boarding school is to bring out the best in boys – something that is greatly helped by being single sex. Aldro boys move on at 13+ to a wide range of schools including Charterhouse, Eton, Harrow, Radley, the Royal Grammar School Guildford, Wellington and Winchester. We have an outstanding record of success in winning scholarship awards, both academic and for music, art, sport and all-round abilities. The school’s Christian ethos helps to promote a warm and caring environment. At this top boys only boarding school pupils have opportunities to pursue a huge range of activities outside the classroom from the conventional – such as sport, music, art and drama – to the exciting that many boys sadly cannot enjoy – such as den-making, shooting, rowing, sailing and fishing. It adds up to a beguiling combination and helps to explain why Aldro boys go on to thrive at their senior schools – and beyond.
