A leader in girls’ education, Westover is an academically rigorous school dedicated to challenging and encouraging young women to participate in all aspects of academic, athletic, and community life.
Westover School is located in a lovely, safe New England town halfway between New York and Boston. Founded in 1909, Westover is best known for a broad and deep academic program, a warm and welcoming community, outstanding facilities and strong college placement. Students at Westover are high achievers who take advantage of the wide range of electives and 22 Advanced Placement courses that are offered in all subject areas. Students are also involved in a variety of clubs and community service activities.
In addition to the tradition courses, seven signature programs at Westover enhance the curriculum. These programs are:
W.I.S.E. (Women in Science and Engineering)
Investing in Girls (IIG): Principles of Finance
Sonja Osborn Museum Studies Internship (SOMSI)
Global Exchange Programs
Manhattan School of Music
Westover Poets Program
With one main building that houses all dorm rooms and day student lounges of the 200 students, community life is integral at Westover. The Westover community is diverse, with 20% of students coming from minority backgrounds, and 19% representing 17 countries. Surrounding the central campus are playing fields, tennis courts, a pond, and walking and cross-country trails in woods extending over 130 acres. Students regularly join with the faculty to consult on recommendations regarding the academic program, activities, and school life. Dorm parents live on corridor, and they, together with faculty members, share with students in a rich extracurricular program.
Located in Middlebury CT, Westover is only a short distance from New York City and Boston. Our girls travel to both of these cities for both their studies and recreation. In addition to these trips Westover offers a number of co-ed events on the weekends such as dances, movie nights, and volunteer events. Finally, there are also a number of chaperoned trips to local stores, theaters, and restaurants.
