Many new pupils are dealing with a range of difficulties, compounded by their disaffection towards learning, their negative attitudes towards authority and a history of interrupted education, including exclusion from mainstream schools. Due to these difficulties many of our students have previously been out of school for long periods of time.

The first aim of the school is to enable students to acknowledge and cope with their specific difficulties and assist them in fulfilling their potential through providing positive full time education, accessing the National Curriculum whilst incorporating broader vocational elements to meet the needs of each young person.

Talocher School  offers day placements as well as 38 and 52 week boarding.

Due to the range of courses delivered in-house and strong links with a number of external provisions, Talocher School offers broad curriculum including:

Core subjects (Key Stages 2, 3, 4 and 5)

Location Description

Monmouth is the historic county town (population of 10'508) of Monmouthshire, Wales. It is situated where the River Monnow meets the River Wye, within 2 miles (3.2 km) of the border with England. The town is 30 miles (48 km) northeast of Cardiff, and 113 miles (182 km) west of London. It is within the Monmouthshire local authority, and the   parliamentary constituency of Monmouth.

The town was the site of a small Roman fort, Blestium, and became established after the Normans built a castle here after 1067.

Monmouthshire also known as the County of Monmouth is one of thirteen historic counties of Wales and a former administrative county. It corresponds approximately to the present principal areas ofMonmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent, Newport and Torfaen, and those parts of Caerphilly and Cardiff east of the Rhymney River.
