The Physical Education and Games programme is a central feature of Strathallan. All pupils take part in physical activity at least three times a week. The main aim is to provide a range of sports and activities which is enjoyable and allows the pupils to experience the benefits of regular exercise. Development of skills is a key feature of the P.E and games programme.
Strathallan caters for all abilities and interests and it is recognised that not everyone will be a main team games player either in ability or inclination. There are fixtures at all levels with local and other HMC schools. Everyone has the chance to represent the School. Inter House competitions increase opportunities for representation. The standard of coaching is high and the results reflect the pursuit of excellence across the range of sports.
Art and Design Technology are recognised as an important part of the School’s curriculum and there are opportunities to study the subjects at GCSE and A Level. Pupils benefit from trips abroad and have the opportunity to exhibit their work both locally and further afield.
A purpose-built Art School features facilities for painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture and print-making, and the Design Technology Centre includes the latest computerised technology.
The vibrant Music Department is one where pupils gain an unparalleled breadth of experience performing in over sixty concerts a year from a base of over twenty different ensembles. Over half of the School take individual music lessons in a very wide range of instrumental and vocal areas including Musical Theatre, Traditional Scottish Music, Classical, Jazz, Rock and Pop music. Pupils and Music Scholars perform at national level in the National Youth, National Youth Jazz and National Children's Orchestras of Scotland, the National Youth Choirs of Scotland and Great Britain and the National Youth Music Theatre. The Choral Scholarship Programme trains a number of choristers to perform weekly, during term, as a collegiate choir at St Ninian's Episcopal Cathedral.
Drama thrives throughout the School and the department makes full use of the theatre which has just received a state of the art upgrade to the sound system and LED lighting. There are junior and senior performances each year and pupils are encouraged to become involved in all aspects of production. A musical is put on each year and many of our pupils are entered for LAMDA and Trinity Guildhall musical theatre exams.
