The English Language Learning (ELL) program at Marine Military Academy is an English immersion
program for students who lack English proficiency. All classes will be
taught in English, as it is the best way for ELL cadets to master the
English language, but modifications and accommodations will be provided
to ELL cadets in and out of the classroom their first year.
MMA will provide the following support system for ELL cadets:
cadets will be assigned a peer mentor who speaks their native language.
A peer mentor will be assigned both in the classroom and in the
barracks during Closed Call to Quarter (CCQ) time.
- Teachers will implement alternative educational techniques and strategies to help ELL cadets become proficient in English.
academic progress of ELL cadets will be monitored every three weeks. If
the student is failing, an ELL committee will analyze and modify the
techniques and strategies that are in place. Parents will also be made
aware of their son’s progress.
