Examination results achieved every year are first class and put this prestigious boarding school consistently high up in the league tables time and time again, achieving academic excellence and yet retaining traditional values, giving students an exciting approach to life and creating a stepping stone between school and university. The potential artist, linguist, scientist, philosopher, lawyer, actor or captain of industry – each is well catered for and valued. This top 10 boarding schools UK prepares students in 22 A-level subjects which can be studied in any combination, and the curriculum includes traditional academic studies as well as more contemporary subjects. The 21st century is rapidly changing and that now, more than ever, the demands of industry are driving fresh requirements for qualifications. So while subjects like Maths, History, Economics, English, Modern Languages and Science still form the backbone to a well-balanced academic portfolio (a quarter of the school is studying A-level Maths), the trend towards ‘real life’ disciplines such as Accountancy, Law, Business and Media Studies is also acknowledged and is well provided.
Boarding School Facilities
As a fully boarding school, the first concern is to provide students with a safe, structured, caring and happy community, a home from home. Students live in one of five country houses or their lodges, some of which are on the campus and some nearby. All of the working day is spent on campus and you are transported back to your House after supper every evening by the House staff.
You will have a study bedroom which is normally shared with one other student, although there are some singles for second year students. There are also kitchen facilities in every house for toast, pot noodles, tea and coffee etc, games rooms and communal TV rooms. You may also bring your own TV, video or DVD. All houses have internet access and a wireless LAN.
For the last two decades, the A-level results have put Hurtwood “among the cream of the country’s best schools,” (Financial Times) at the top of the League Table for co-ed boarding schools, consistently ahead of most of its illustrious rivals.
These brilliant results speak for themselves, and they are achieved as much in core academic subjects such as Mathematics, Science, Economics, Modern Languages, History and English, as they are the creative ones.
Art Boarding School
well as traditional academic subjects, Hurtwood House is especially famous for its creative and performing arts department.
