Introduction

Farleigh Further Education College Frome is special school for autism UK, provides both day and 24 hour residential care for up to 90 students aged 16-25 with autistic spectrum disorders, pervasive development disorder, Asperger's  syndrome and associated complex needs including behavioural difficulties.

This autistic residential school has five residential houses in the community each with its own identity, working ethos and dedicated team of staff. This provides learners with the opportunity to experience independent living in a range of different settings. 

Individual programmes of support are designed either as day or 38 week placements for up to three years.

The main  goal of  this best autistic school in UK is to ensure that learners are prepared for independent adult life, feel empowered to make choices and optimise their independent living skills.

For this aim the College offers: 

-An aspirational provision focused upon a positive understanding of autistic spectrum conditions

Accreditations

This special school for autism UK provides the range of courses (more than 150 courses) for students through partnership agreements with local mainstream colleges. The college offers: GCSEs, A-Levels, Pre-entry vocational courses, NVQ Level 3, BTEC National Diplomas, RARPA – evidence based progression qualifications.
Students have previously studied a broad spectrum of subjects, including: English, Maths, Science, History, Japanese, Geography, Psychology, Sociology, Art, Photography, ICT Certificate in Digital Appliances, Spanish, French.

This special boarding school for autistic child as educational establishment is inspected on a regular basis by Ofsted (a government department - Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills). Farleigh Further Education College in Frome was established in 2000 as an independent specialist residential college with Asperger Syndrome and associated conditions.

Farleigh Further Education College is run by the Priory Group. 

The Priory Group was established in 1980. The group is the UK's leading independent  provider of mental health care facilities and operates at more than 500 sites in the United Kingdom and includes among them: rehabilitation and recovery centres; mental healthcare hospitals and clinics; specialist schools and colleges; supported residential facilities and homes; care homes for older people. Farleigh Further Education College being part of the Priory Group: division education and children’s services, has access to additional healthcare and supported living services where needed.

    The college offers provision through three main strands of delivery:

    • In house academic programme – including functional skills, GCSE and A level courses
    • Support in local mainstream further education colleges including, A level and BTEC courses
    • Vocational and work based learning in the local community

    Admissions criteria:


    • Aged between 16 and 25 years old
    • A diagnosis of autistic spectrum disorders or evidence of behaviours which are in accordance
    with such a diagnosis, such as social and communication difficulties
    • Associated complex needs

    • We offer ongoing support, learning and independence skills within a person centred
    framework to maximise individual potential
    • Individual plans and programmes are adjusted as required to ensure that each learner is challenged to progress at speeds and levels that are appropriate for them
    • All learners undertake a programme relating to the management of personal finances, designed to better equip them for their future independence
    • The desired outcome for all learners is increased independence including further or higher education and independent living

    This autism boarding school is able to offer a range of residential accommodation options for students, split across five sites which are all well-integrated within the local community.

    Sandusky Mews

    Sandusky Mews comprises four modern semi-detached houses, each with:

    Accommodation for five students in a combination of shared and single rooms
    Communal lounge
    Dining room
    Kitchen
    Its own secluded grounds
    Students often move between the four houses, building friendship and sharing in social activities in the communal lounges, for example watching DVDs and playing computer games.

    North Parade

    North Parade comprises:

    Accommodation for up to 22 students, mostly in single rooms
    Large communal lounge where students watch TV, play computer games and socialise
    Large dining room
    Two self-catering kitchens where students can cook for themselves
    Garden area with raised beds where students can grow their own vegetables

    Ashleigh Grove

    Ashleigh Grove comprises a pair of semi-detached houses. Located in Trowbridge, it is within easy walking distance of one of our mainstream partner colleges, Wiltshire College and comprises:

    Accommodation for up to five students
    Bedrooms
    Bathrooms
    Shared facilities
    A shared conservatory joins the houses so students can move easily between them

    Delta Close

    Delta Close is a small modern terraced house on a housing estate. Often used by students who are confident in their independence skills, residents usually do most of their own cooking and other domestic tasks. Delta Close comprises:

    Three bedrooms
    Bathrooms
    Shared facilities

    Tallowood and Maple

    Tallowood and Maple are two modern detached residences, best suited to more independent students who are able to do most of their own cooking and other domestic tasks. Located near the centre of the small market town of Shepton Mallet, these homes are an ideal choice for students who attend Strode College in Street.

Frome is a town  (a population of 26,203) and civil parish in eastern Somerset, England. Located at the eastern end of the Mendip Hillls, the town is built on uneven high ground, and centres on the River Frome.
