Dallam is one of the few state boarding schools UK. This gives students who live further away access to an outstanding English education in a prestigious secondary school. Our boarders come to Dallam to get excellent GCSE, A Level or IB qualifications. It’s also an opportunity to develop personally and socially - an ideal bridge between home and university. Set in beautiful Cumbrian countryside, this best boarding school offers a safe, rural environment but with lots for young people to do, such as outdoor adventure, sports, swimming, Army Cadets and the Duke of Edinburgh Scheme. Boarders have easy access to the major cultural centres in the North of England such as Manchester and Liverpool. Boarders are automatically given a place at the school. Judged to be outstanding by Ofsted, standards of teaching and academic achievement by students are very high. There are 1000 students in the school. This includes 250 in the 6th form which offers both International Baccalaureate and A Level programmes. There are excellent study facilities within the house, including wireless broadband for laptop computers. A study period each evening, “prep”, is supervised by boarding staff. Fees are very much lower than in equivalent independent schools. This is because parents only pay for boarding accommodation.
