Looking for British girls only boarding schools? Have a look at Cobham Hall in Cobham, Kent, England. This is a boarding school for girls. Girls take GCSEs and IGCSEs in Year 11 and study for their International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma in the Sixth Form. We also offer a flexible one, two or three term Pre-IB course to prepare girls for taking the IB Diploma the following year. This combines core GCSE subjects with preparation for the IB. Pre-IB can be particularly useful for girls who are joining the English education system from elsewhere in the world. Boarders have input into choosing the places they go and the things they do. Daygirls are also invited on all trips. There is an escorted trip almost every weekend, which is compulsory for full boarders in Years 7 to 10. Girls in Pre-IB and Years 11 to 13 can choose which trips they attend. With their parents’ permission, girls in Years 11 can go to local towns and Bluewater Shopping Centre on Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays. Girls in Pre-IB and Years 12 and 13 can go to Bluewater Shopping Centre and local towns any day after school (returning before the beginning of Prep), and can also go to London at the weekend with their parents’ permission. The time at which they have to return to school in the evening is dependent upon their age. Below is a selection of boarding activities and trips. It is by no means exhaustive. Trips to Windsor Castle, Hampton Court, Dover Castle and Hever Castle Visits to seaside towns such as Brighton, Hastings and Broadstairs Trips to Madame Tussauds, London Dungeons, museums, pantomimes, galleries and exhibitions Visits to Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park and China Town Outings to Thorpe Park and Chessington Adventure Park and Zoo Ice skating, ten-pin bowling and cinema trips Excursions to towns such as Tunbridge Wells and Canterbury and shopping in Covent Garden, Bluewater and Westfield Stratfield West End Theatre trips Laser Quest High Tea in London Movie nights, quiz nights, Wii nights and games nights Baking and pizza making Country walks, sports and teambuilding activities Make-up workshop and fashion shows Restaurant trips Zumba classes.
The size of the school, combined with the high level of pastoral, care guarantee a very family orientated atmosphere. The movie “Wild Child” was filmed at the school.

About the school

Long description: Learning support:

The Student Support Department works with students who have Specific Learning Difficulties such as dyslexia and dyspraxia, helping them to achieve their full potential and become successful learners.

Sixth Form:

Brooke is dedicated Sixth Form House, The girls live and study there. The House is lively, comfortable and sociable – girls often cook together, laugh together and relax together.

Day girls also have their own study bedrooms in the House, and girls often join together to share meals, play silly games or support each other with work.  Exchange student and Elder Ana describes her experience: “Boarding is kind of like a sleepover for three months at a time.  We often talk about our home countries, cultural differences, and of course – how much we miss home!  Although it is hard at times, it’s incredibly comforting to know that you’re constantly surrounded by girls that are going through the same challenges as you.”

Life as a Sixth Former at Cobham Hall is very different to that of Lower and Middle School.  School uniforms are replaced with suits, girls find they have more freedom and independence, and are encouraged to take greater responsibility both for their learning and within school life.  From Round Square International Conferences, Service Projects and Exchanges, through to Model United Nations, The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the comprehensive programme of extra-curricular activities, some of which the girls choose to run, there are plenty of opportunities to take a break from the desk.  Girls can also make use of the on-site facilities such as the gym or going for a walk in the grounds, or take part in weekend trips.
