Looking for UK best boarding school? Have a look at this one. We present here Bryanston School in Blandford, Dorset, England. ''Bryanston is famously laidback and liberal but insists it is not
'airy-fairy'. We love this school for so many reasons and, as a
bonus, the academic results are every bit as pleasing as the happy
atmosphere: 49 per cent A*-A at A-level, and IB now an option.
Teachers record weekly marks on an app so that parents and personal
tutors (it's all very bespoke here) can see online updates anytime.
It's been a sterling year for art, with an exhibition in Cork
Street (Lucian Freud was an OB) - excitingly, a Manhattan collector
bought a piece. In sport, back home on the banks of the Stour in
leafy Dorset, the kayak team, which has a new boathouse, won the
schools' Waterside Series last year and the rugby under-14s and
under-16s claimed county titles. Hopkins Architects (who - get this
- designed the Olympic velodrome, as well as Bryanston's
award-winning Sanger Centre for Science and Mathematics) are
working on a new suite of classrooms and a music block. Meanwhile,
the musicians are by no means kicking their heels and have
performed Verdi's Requiem at the Lighthouse in Poole, which is the
big-deal venue in Dorset; the dance troue has entertained at
Disneyland Paris; and the school band is the first to be deemed
professional enough to play at a London jazz club.'' (from Tatler good school guide)
|Year of foundation:
||In 1928, a young schoolmaster and seven like-minded colleagues founded a school with the aim of 'putting right everything that was wrong with their own'.
Although a natural innovator, J G Jeffreys respected good traditions
and developed a vision for teaching and learning at Bryanston that drew
upon the best of the new and the old, which is reflected in the school's
motto et nova et vetera. Today, the school continues to share
much with many older independent schools, including the pursuit of
academic and extra-curricular excellence.
