Brooke House College is an international boarding school offering a British Curriculum to students from the UK and around the world. Aimed at ages between 12-20, offering; GCSE, A Levels, University Foundation Programme, all supported with Academic English and IELTS, where appropriate. The University Foundation Programme (UFP) has several pathways; Business, Law, Architecture, Engineering, Arts. New for September 2016 a Medicine UFP with progression pathways within the UK and Europe. The mean average class size at Brooke House is eight. Such a staff-pupil ratio promotes a highly personal style of teaching. Specific learning difficulties are dealt with directly under the leadership of our SENCo. There are ca. 210 pupils on roll and some of them have statements of special educational needs. In small, relatively informal classes pupils feel confident to voice opinions, contributing to group discussions, as well as to admit if they have not understood. Students are allocated in single gender, comfortable,well-equipped boarding houses. All the boarding houses possess a sitting room, with television and DVD player and a kitchenette where students can prepare their own snacks in the evenings and at weekends. All boarding houses are equipped with WiFi. While all accommodation blocks possess their own laundry facilities there is also a central laundry with industrial washing and drying machines. A common meeting point for students is the college’s recently refurbished Paul Kitchener Building, which has pool and table tennis tables available. Brooke House allows pupils to develop their potential to the full. For the most able student this will mean top grades and a place at one of the country’s best universities, but over its 50 year history Brooke House has taken equal pride in drawing the best out of less able students.
An Intensive English (IE) Language Course is available to those students who need to improve their English language level as quickly as possible before embarking on an academic course. Each IE course is tailored to the individual academic needs of the student, helping to prepare them as thoroughly as possible for their GCSE, A level or UFP course with an opportunity to sit for IELTS examinations. English Language is also an integral part of academic courses such as GCSE and A level, ensuring continued improvement of the students’ linguistic abilities. Teaching methods are innovative and varied with the teachers employing the most modern learning techniques and approaches. Flexible start dates are available throughout the academic year. GCSE is an examination that most English students take at the age of 16 in between four and eight subjects. At Brooke House a full range of GCSE courses. GCE A level is one of the world’s most recognised qualifications, leading students to direct university entry. To obtain this qualification, students undertake a two year course in three to four subjects normally starting at the age of 16. After one year of study, students may sit an AS level in the subject, which they have been studying, since these have been de-coupled from A levels and are now a free-standing qualification in their own right. At the end of the two year course, the full A level examination is taken.
This Top UK boarding school organises discos, film evenings, debating nights, chess, table tennis and pool competitions, music, drama, martial arts and aerobics sessions and full participation in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. One of the highlights of the annual social calendar is the Summer Prize Giving Ceremony and Ball. Every half term, therefore, 1 weekend is given over to a 2-night sightseeing excursion with hotel accommodation. Brooke House College has been running a successful Junior Residential Summer School in Market Harborough, Leicestershire for 37 years. In Summer 2018 we are delighted to expand with the opening of our Adult (18+) Residential Summer School Centre in Central London.
The course is constructed carefully to give each and every student the opportunity to improve his or her English whilst, at the same time, taking advantage of living in Central London. As well as the benefits that come with living in the capital city of the United Kingdom, by living and studying together, the course encourages students to speak English with one another and to experience one another’s cultures.
