The University Foundation Programme (UFP) has several pathways; Business, Law, Architecture, Engineering, Arts. New for September 2016 a Medicine UFP with progression pathways within the UK and Europe.

Brooke House is no-selective, mainstream independent college that accepts boys and girls from the age of 12 years, including boys and girls with learning difficulties.
The college offers learning support, additional specialist teaching, and referral to an educational psychologist for a formal assessment.

The mean average class size at Brooke House is eight. Such a staff-pupil ratio promotes a highly personal style of teaching. Teachers can quickly perceive areas of weakness in students and react to them effectively and sensitively. Specific learning difficulties are dealt with directly under the leadership of our SENCo. In small, relatively informal classes pupils feel confident to voice opinions, contributing to group discussions, as well as to admit if they have not understood.
Brooke House is a tutorial college for international students. Class sizes are very small and there is the option of a one year fast track University Foundation course. The college runs a highly professional football academy. Airport: Birmingham: 1 h East Midlands: 1 h Stansted: 1 h 30 min Train station: Market Harborough: 5 min

About the school

Long description:

An Intensive English (IE) Language Course is available to those students who need to improve their English language level as quickly as possible before embarking on an academic course. Each IE course is tailored to the individual academic needs of the student, helping to prepare them as thoroughly as possible for their GCSE, A level or UFP course with an opportunity to sit for IELTS examinations.

English Language is also an integral part of academic courses such as GCSE and A level, ensuring continued improvement of the students’ linguistic abilities. Teaching methods are innovative and varied with the teachers employing the most modern learning techniques and approaches. Flexible start dates are available throughout the academic year.
GCSE is an examination that most English students take at the age of 16 in between four and eight subjects. At Brooke House a full range of GCSE courses.

GCE A level is one of the world’s most recognised qualifications, leading students to direct university entry. To obtain this qualification, students undertake a two year course in three to four subjects normally starting at the age of 16. After one year of study, students may sit an AS level in the subject, which they have been studying, since these have been de-coupled from A levels and are now a free-standing qualification in their own right. At the end of the two year course, the full A level examination is taken.

At Brooke House College we believe it is important that students set time aside for their individual learning in preparation for university life. Therefore there are scheduled times throughout the week when students undertake supervised private study.

1. During the school day, students will be timetabled to private study sessions in the Brooke House main building workroom, or, if students are in the ‘Sixth Form’, they may study in their boarding houses.

2. Each weekday evening, ‘prep’ or homework is undertaken in the students’ boarding houses from 19:30 – 21:00, students are supervised in their accommodation.

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) assesses the English language proficiency of people who want to study or work where English is used as the language of communication.
Students wishing to study at a English speaking University will normally require an IELTS score of at least 6.0.
Non-native English speaking students, studying A Level or a University Foundation Programme will be allocated IELTS lessons.

Dorm Facilities: Brooke House has a number of dedicated science laboratories in which to conduct practical work. We have specialised computer rooms for academic courses as well as enrichment activities. Art and Design is becoming an increasingly popular subject option and at Brooke House we have a fully equipped Art Studio catering for fine art, graphics and textiles. The University and College Admission Service (UCAS) office houses university brochures and other Higher Education information materials; pupils also benefit from our annual University fair, where university admissions departments come to the college to deliver workshops and outline degree courses to our pupils. The Paul Kitchener (PK) Building acts as our activity centre during the timetabled co-curricular programme, whilst the workroom offers a quiet environment for independent study, Monday to Friday. The PK Building, all boarding accommodation, and all academic buildings have unlimited WiFi available.
