About the school
We pride ourselves on offering a broad, forward thinking and dynamic
curriculum. Our teachers are all well qualified and experienced in
motivating and inspiring our pupils with a diverse range of teaching
methods. We aim to give children as much opportunity to learn outside
the classroom as possible and the grounds and local surroundings offer
the perfect environment for children to learn.
All our pupils are prepared for Common Entrance at 13+ or
Scholarships to their public schools. The National Curriculum guidelines
are followed lower down in the school whilst always looking for
opportunities to stretch pupils academically. We have always been proud
of achieving scholarships and awards across the curriculum and our
record speaks volumes of the quality of teaching we are able to offer.
In recent years we have won major scholarships to Winchester, Benenden,
Stowe and Eastbourne.
In the junior half of the school in the 5s and 4s (Years 3, 4 and 5),
as well as the core subjects of Maths, English, Science and French,
every child receives teaching in Geography, History, RS, Art, DT, Music,
PE, ICT, Chess and Drama.
The final three years focuses on preparation for Common Entrance at
13+. Latin is introduced whilst some of the other small subjects become
optional activities. This is tactfully interrupted with a term spent at
Chateau de Sauveterre, which gives every child in the 2s (Year 7) the
opportunity to immerse themselves in French culture and language as well
as giving them a valuable social experience. The confidence and love of
languages gained from this is unquestionable.
Children in Years 6 & 7 have practice sessions of Verbal & Non Verbal Reasoning.
We have an excellent Learning Support setup which enables us to
assess and monitor the progress of every child in the school. The Log
Cabin is occupied by two fully trained specialists and children who
require additional support can have either individual or group tutoring
to support the mainstream teaching. There is EAL support for children
for whom English is not their first language.
Every child is assessed with assessment cards written by every
subject teacher and end of term examinations held internally at the end
of the Autumn and Summer Terms. There is written feedback given on every
child at the end of the Autumn and Summer Term.
The academic curriculum is carefully complimented with a wide range
of extra-curricular activities. Games, Clubs and Activities all form a
busy and stimulating day for every child, hence giving them the best
