We present here Abingdon School in Oxford - an independent boys school in the south of Oxfordshire - a tradition of which is made up of over 750 years of history with a modern approach to education, providing an all-round education for boys from the age of 11 to 18. The School wants also to encourage students’ academic achievements, with impressive results at GCSE, A Level and give them a possibility to become a students of such university as Oxbridge, the School provides extensive extra-curricular programs of activities, by encouraging its students to try something new, to develop their new or already known abilities and talents and ‘give something back’. Our purpose is to make sure that each boy flourishes at Abingdon and, through discipline and opportunity, makes the most of his potential and talents. Our students come from a wide range of social and geographic surroundings, which creates a diverse and mixed society. We encourage boys of all faiths to become a part of our community. This top UK boarding school is located in the centre of Abingdon, only six miles south away from Oxford. Abingdon Preparatory Boarding School is on a separate site only ten minutes away. Our facilities includes such buildings as: the beautiful Victorian and Edwardian buildings and much more modern Amey Theatre, Arts Centre and science blocks. We are also very proud of our most recent facility which is a multi-million-pound sports centre which was opened in 2008. Organisation Abingdon is divided into the Lower School (aged 11-13), Middle School (aged 13-16) and Upper School or Sixth Form (aged 16-18). Students spend two years in Lower School, three years in middle School and two years in the Sixth Form Boarding School. Entry to the Lower School is mainly from maintained primary schools and independent schools which are finished at the age of eleven, while the Middle School intake is predominantly from preparatory schools taking the Common Entrance Examination. In the Upper School there is a further incorporation of boys from the maintained and independent sectors.
